A clueless shrug in response. Roka would’ve preferred them coming to visit him instead of the other way around, personally. “She didn’t ask me, exactly, but I’m sure she’s still expecting me. I only got the message a couple months ago and she didn’t write it. My mom did.”
“Nani mo nai.” Roka replied, just as quietly. He had no problem giving everyone around them the none-too-subtle message to mind their own business, but he was glad when he could lead them inside the building. They were safe now…or not. When they walked in, it seemed okay. A restaurant/bar type of shop, with a few odd scents, but it was nice enough…until a large demon was standing directly in front of them.
It was another fire demon, by the strong smell of smoke. He looked like a cross between a porcupine, a dragon, and a lizard. His skin was a bright, reddish orange. His large, red eyes directed themselves at Fea for a couple seconds, but unlike the other demons, he seemed more interested in eating humans than anything else. And also unlike them, he forgot all about her when he saw Roka. He stood and snarled loudly, a small puff of smoke coming from his nose. “I knew I smelled something.” He growled deeply, trying to stare Roka down. “A filthy, little half-breed, eh? Figures, damned stupid water demons."
Roka glared back at him, stiffening. Insulting both sides of his family simultaneously was a new one. He restrained himself only enough to be silent. He had a friend with him and a personal mission ahead, pride could wait.
“Nothin’ to say, runt?” He sneered, baring several rows of sharp (definitely unbrushed) fangs. “Too bad, wasting your last words...'cuz little fishies who come down here usually get fried.”
The demon spat a small fireball at them, which Roka easily destroyed with a ball of water from his palm. The advantage of element never hurt. "I don’t have any business with you.” The cold reply only made the fire demon angrier.
“I think we can fix that.” He snarled, coming close enough for Roka to be sure he'd never heard of floss before. Or breath-mints, for that matter.
“Hey, pal, if you’ve got a problem with our customers, deal with it when they’re outside the shop.” A wolf demon behind the counter glared in their direction. To Roka’s surprise, he was talking to the fire demon. “Hey, brimstone-breath. Didja hear me? I said, either simmer down or get out.”
“Oh, yeah? And who’s gonna make me, fur ball?” The demon snorted, blowing some smoke out his nose. As soon as he said it, he suddenly became aware of a larger and more muscular wolf demon returning from the back. Along with every single other wolf, dog, and fox related demon within earshot who were all suddenly staring at him. It worked. “Y-yeah, well, he ain’t worth my time anyway…” He grumbled under his breath and walked out.
Roka smirked and walked up to the counter. “Thanks.”
The wolf demon shrugged. “Don’t mention it, kid. Hotheads like him make messes and drive away customers, anyway.”
